Indiana Jones cake

I ventured into the unknown today and made (with the help of my fabulous wife who did the icing) my son's birthday cake.

He's 9 years old today, and is crazy about Indiana Jones, so what better birthday cake to make him than a fairly unique 'Indy-runs-from-a-giant-gobstopper-while-escaping-from-the-temple-of-doom' one.

Actually, I'm quite proud of it, and Son Of Mandrake was stoked! It's pretty weird that a father and his son can have the same hero!

That is one cool cake. Can you tell me how you managed to make that? How did you make the silver icing and construct the cake? What's in the treasure box - it looks like Cap'n Crunch cereal? Are those Twix bars for the fencing?

Thanks for posting this!

Hi there. Thanks for your comment!

I bought 2 square sponge cakes. Kept one whole for the base and cut the other into 4 long rectangular pieces to make the temple. The grey icing was made with black food colouring. I found some gold-nugget bubble gum and put it in the temple and in a Lego treasure-chest. The fencing is just 'chololate-finger' biscuits cut in half (Popular and here in New Zealand, far cheaper than Twix bars ;-) Hope that helps!

I love this cake! We're having an Indiana Jones party for my 5 year old tomorrow and this is by far the best cake idea out there. Thanx for explaining how you did it. I grew up in Canada and know exactly what you used for fencing . . . not sure about it in the USA. Thanx again for the amazing idea!
